Seminar: Perspectives of Music Procuction
Curated by John Corbett (Chicago)
Johan Berth Ling (Häpna), Stephane Berland (Ayler Records), Thomas Millroth (Olof Bright Editions), Jocke Nordwall (iDEAL Recordings), Marek Winiarski (nottwo records)

Seminar will be held in English!

MC Raymond Strid
Raymond Strid (SWE) is unique in Swedish and international improvised music. He has a totally own way of playing and for many years his progressive music philosophy laid the foundations of the Swedish improvisation scene as it is today. Countless are the musicians, invited to the home of Mr. Raymond, who have been given access, and allowed themselves to be inspired, by Mr. Strid and his deeply involvement in improvised music as well as his HOME-BREW (Evan Parker and Barry Guy was astonished when they experienced an English ale together with Raymond for already 10 years ago!), hi-end audio and classical discus throwing!
Raymond has played with most of the elite in the improvised music scene and all of them has taken a chilled pint of his magnificent beer: Paul Lovens, Roger Turner, Evan Parker, Ken Vandermark, Marilyn Crispell, Anders Jormin, Barry Guy, etc. m.fl.
We are proud and delighted to present Raymond in two very exciting formations during this festival: Erik Oscarsson Quintet and Combat/Thomas/Thomas.
In addition to that he will spread generally good atmosphere during the festival since he will also Raymond acting presenter / MC for concerts.

Martin Herterich & Tobias Åström Duo
Martin Herterich-live electronics (SWE), Tobias Åström-live electronics (SWE)

With the raw punk as a starting point for scenic ecstasy this audiovisual experiment balances with influences from dronemusik and Musique Concrete to a highly caracteristic blend. Odd tonal colors and interesting structures creates a strong personal mix.

Riis / Mockunas / Lindsjö
Jakob Riis - laptop (DNK), Liudas Mockunas - woodwinds (LVA), Anders Lindsjö - guitar (SWE)

New group, specially hand-picked for the Perspectives Festival by three extremely creative experimental musicians with roots in jazz, country(!) and noise!
Tight electronic timbres faces acoustic tone colors in the new "Baltic-Impro".
Riis has worked previously with Mockunas as well as Lindsjö, but this will the first trio meeting.

Clayton Thomas solo
Clayton Thomas - double bass (AUS)

Spectacular bass player from Australia who nowadays is raging in Berlin with surroundings. With an enormous responsivity and curiosity on creative music in all its forms, he has created a complete own tonality on the double-bass. He has with this extreme musicality, really extended the possibilities to improvise freely on his instrument!
Makes great music including together with Johannes Bauer, Tony Buck and Peter Brötzmann, but he will be appearing in the festival in solo with his fullrange "woodtool".

Cor Fuhler solo
Cor Fuhler - piano and prepared piano (NLD)

Very unique and dedicated pianist who refuses to use the piano keys only in his improvised soundscapes. Cor is like no other in building sound constructions of unprecedented magnitude and beauty. A totally unique musician unlike any other when he ultimately turn, break o deconstruct sound and timbres with his preparations and digitally processings. (including i.e. super magnets, milk skimming apparatus and other creative objects and machines!).

18:00
Erik Oscarsson Quintet
Virginia Genta - saxophone (USA), Mats Äleklint - trombone (SWE), Erik Oscarsson - piano (SWE), Johan Berthling - double bass (SWE), Raymond Strid - drums/percussion (SWE)

Young Mr. Oscarsson is back to Västerås, this time with a MAXIMAL explosive ensemble! The trio has again increased, with the sensational Virginia Genta on tenor saxophone and the highly skilled blues singer (!) Mats Äleklint on trombone. Genta's saxophone playing has a HELLISH heat and frenzy with a tone that brings to mind Frank Wright ...
Her melodic qualities to balance these primal sounds in a challenging way which make her as the ideal component in this expressive group.
Mats Äleklint is a trombonist who is just ... amazing!
Oscarsson yourself then? Yes, no one is unmoved by a concert with Erik. With a full dedication and glow lets his version of jazz piano playing meet their fellow players. With a take-no-prisoners attitude attack, he loves and transforms the jazz that inspired him since a very young age.
Raymond and Johan are the pillars upon which the Swedish improvised music rests!
So ist es!
Classic free jazz line-up!

Lokomotiv Konkret
Dror Feiler - woodwinds, electronics (SWE/ISR), Sören Runolf - cello, electronics (SWE), Tommy Björk - drums (SWE)

A CLASSICAL group in the European improvised music. For over 30 years, this group has been attacking the usual conceptions of what music is and can be. There is really no equivalent of the locomotive! An extremely interacting trio where form and content in the music changes synchronously in the moment with TELEPATHIC causes, it has to be...
Crude energy-charged music with brutal interjections coexist with lyrical passages of great poetic beauty.
Add the political and ideological commitment that over all the years flavoured the group and its music, so we find simply a VERY MUCH SO important group with is flag forever high in the sky!
A 15-year-old Mats Gustafsson saw this group in Umeå, with Mr. Feiler in a white karate suit directing the group into the sound worlds completely unknown to him. With an unparalleled instrument line-up and burning frenziness the group blew audience of their chairs. Nothing has been the same after that meeting!
Together with Iskra and Bengt Nordström thr Locomotive has laid the foundations for the Swedish improvised music!
We appreciate it!

Ryu / Dieb13
Hankil Ryu - prepared watches, electronics (KOR), Dieb13 - turntables (JPN)

A remarkable duo where the unpredictable is the foundation of the musical communication. Two strongly personal new voices on the international scene, both working with entirely own tonality and approaches.
Hankil Ryu is one of the most important musicians in the extremely interesting experimental scene in Korea! A scene characterized by a wild experimentation especially in its timbre. Many musicians use machines and objects that are picked apart and then micked or transformed into something new and radical. CD players, hard drives and in Hankils case: hacked old clock works! It sounds like no other ...
Interesting, well that's only the first name!
Dieb 13 is an unparalleled vinyl-demagogue! From a most lively and creative scene in Vienna, he works with completely unique vinyles, which he presses himself in his apartment in a machine that look like taken out from bad SF-Movie. With an incredible sensitivity to timbre and form, he is one of the most exciting new voices on the stage today!

Perspectives Meeting
Dror Feiler - woodwinds, electronics (SWE/ISR), Jakob Riis - laptop (DNK), Jojo Hiroshige - guitar (JPN), Otomo Yoshihide - turntables, guitar (JPN), Per Svensson - guitar, electronics (SWE)

A new group specially assembled for this festival.
Two Japanese legendaries, with a guitar treatment that has changed terms for the experimental stage, faces a Swedish-Danish-Israeli arrangement of the best and most creative we got!
This group has capacity to completely change DNA-structures as well as strength in walls and ceiling!
The sound artist and the strongly conceptual Per Svensson is especially invited to this group of "Perspectives Musicians". With electronic tools and guitar, he melts in like the fox in a henhouse (?) In the most diverse contexts (i.e. including Ebbot Lundberg and Freddie Wadling, as well as with Jakob Riis and the Sons of God).
